About Wove Therapy

  • Wove Therapy is an intersectional therapy practice based in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. We provide individual counseling that takes into account the full context of who you are — including your identity, culture, community, and the systems you navigate every day. Our therapists specialize in working with LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and anyone who has found traditional therapy to be a poor fit.

  • Wove Therapy is built on an intersectional framework — meaning we don't treat mental health in isolation from your identities and lived experiences. Our therapists are trained to understand how race, gender, sexuality, disability, and other dimensions of identity intersect with mental health. We also offer sliding-scale fees to make care more accessible, and both in-person and telehealth options to fit different needs.

  • We work with adults across New York State, with particular experience supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, immigrants and first-generation Americans, those navigating relationship transitions, and people who have felt unseen or misunderstood in therapy before. Services and how therapy works

  • Therapy at Wove is a collaborative relationship. You’ll meet with your therapist at least once a week for 45-minute sessions. Together, you’ll explore your relationship with yourself, the people in your life, and the broader systems and structures that shape your experience. Sessions are confidential, non-judgmental, and paced according to what you need.

  • We offer both. In-person sessions take place at our Midtown Manhattan office at 39 West 32nd Street, Suite 1103-4, New York, NY 10001 (between Broadway and 5th Ave). Telehealth sessions are available via secure video for anyone located in New York State. Please note: you must be physically in New York State at the time of your session to receive telehealth care, due to state licensing requirements.

  • Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, tailored to each client. Common modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, somatic approaches, and trauma-informed care. All our therapists are trained in intersectional and culturally responsive practice. Your therapist will work with you to identify what approach fits your goals.

  • There is no fixed timeline — therapy is as long as it needs to be for you. Some clients work toward a specific goal over a few months; others find ongoing support more valuable over a year or more. You and your therapist will regularly check in on your progress and adjust accordingly.

Getting started

  • The easiest way to get started is to reach out via our website contact form or call us at (917) 410-1139. Our front desk will help match you with a therapist based on your availability, financial needs, and what you’re looking for. From there, we’ll schedule your free initial consultation.

  • Yes, always. We offer a free 10-15 minute phone or video consultation with one of our therapists. This is a chance for you to ask questions, get a feel for the therapist’s approach, and decide whether Wove is the right fit for you. There is no obligation or cost. We strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this before starting.

  • You don’t need to prepare anything specific. Come with whatever is on your mind. Your first session is mostly about getting to know each other and for your therapist to understand what brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping to work on. There are no wrong answers, and nothing you can say or feel will be judged.

Fees and insurance

  • Without insurance, our fees range from $80 to $250 per session, depending on therapist experience level and your financial need. We use a sliding-scale model because we believe cost should not be a barrier to care. During your intake, we’ll discuss what is affordable for you and find a rate that works.

  • Several of our therapists are in-network with Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). We are also in-network with The New School Student Health Plan, and some of our therapists are in-network with United Healthcare and Optum. For all other insurance providers, we are out-of-network.

  • Possibly, yes. Many insurance plans include out-of-network mental health benefits, which can reimburse you for a portion of session costs after you meet your deductible. We recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking: What are my out-of-network mental health benefits for outpatient therapy; We can provide a superbill (an itemized receipt) to support your reimbursement claim.

  • We’ll do our best to accommodate you within our sliding-scale range. If our lowest rate is still out of reach, we won’t simply turn you away — we’ll point you toward free and low-cost mental health resources in New York City that may be a better fit for your current situation. Access to care matters to us.

  • We maintain a limited number of reduced-fee slots for clients who qualify based on financial need. Availability varies by therapist. The best way to find out is to mention your financial situation when you reach out, and we will do our best to accommodate you or help you find an alternative.

Practical and logistical questions

  • Our therapists offer sessions across a range of times including mornings, evenings, and some weekend slots — availability varies by therapist. When you contact us, let us know your preferred times and we’ll match you with someone whose schedule aligns with yours.

  • Our in-person office is at 39 West 32nd Street, Suite 1103-4, New York, NY 10001 — conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan between Broadway and 5th Avenue, close to Penn Station and Herald Square. Telehealth sessions are available to anyone physically located in New York State.

  • Unfortunately, due to state licensing laws, we can only provide therapy — including telehealth — to people who are physically located in New York State at the time of the session. If you are outside New York, we are not currently able to work with you, but we would be happy to suggest resources for finding a licensed therapist in your state.

  • Telehealth sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Once you are matched with a therapist and your session is scheduled, you will receive a link to access your session. All you need is a device with a camera and microphone, and a private space. Your therapist will walk you through the platform at your first session if needed.

  • We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session fee. If something unexpected comes up, please reach out as soon as possible — we always try to be understanding in genuine emergencies.

  • Yes. Everything you share with your therapist is confidential and protected by law. There are a small number of legally required exceptions — for example, if a therapist believes there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or someone else, or in cases involving child abuse. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly at the start of your work together.

Intersectional and identity-affirming care

  • Intersectional therapy is an approach that recognizes how multiple aspects of a person’s identity — including race, gender, sexuality, disability, class, immigration status, and more — interact with each other and with broader social systems. Rather than focusing on the individual in isolation, intersectional therapy holds space for the real-world context in which you live. It means your therapist won’t ask you to leave your identity at the door.

  • Yes. All of our therapists are trained in LGBTQ+ affirmative practice. We provide a space where queer and trans identities are not treated as problems to be solved, and where the specific stressors that affect LGBTQ+ individuals — including family rejection, discrimination, and navigating systems that were not designed with you in mind — are taken seriously.

  • Our team includes therapists with diverse backgrounds and cultural competencies. When you reach out, you can let us know if it’s important to you to work with a therapist who shares or understands your cultural background, and we will do our best to find a good match.
